New PlayStation VR Demo Disk 2 packs a helluva punch!

The new PlayStation VR Demo Disk version 2 is available for download on PSN, in all the major regions. PSVR fans, you'll immediately want to download this, and get to enjoying the buffet of treats that Sony has provided for the Fall season. Three prime-time, unreleased PlayStation VR games have new demos to test out. First up is Moss by Polyarc. It was recently announced at Paris Games Week that Moss wasn't going to make a 2017 release window. The game is currently scheduled for a February 27th launch. After playing this wonderful demo, the wait is going to be that much more excruciating. The demo is a delightful example of why 3rd person VR gaming can, and should, continue to be a major force in the industry.

The demo for Moss is quite generous, and will give players an up close and personal look at this exciting adventure coming from Polyarc.

Another must try demo, is Star Child by Playful. Honestly, I think of the three unreleased games being teased with this new demo disc, Star Child is the one that impressed me the most. It literally sent goosebumps down my arms as I was trying it for the first time. Anyone that has played Lucky's Tale on a Rift or Vive knows just what Playful is capable of. This is an extremely talented studio, that has plenty of VR experience under their belts. This demo is certainly the shortest of the three big games, but it might pack the biggest punch. The audio is simply fantastic. Truly impressive audio that brought me into this unique world that Playful has crafted for this game. Star Child seems to be more of a 2D side-scrolling game, but from a 3D camera perspective. Similar to New Super Mario Bros, in that you're controlling a character on a 2D plane, but you can see that character in 3D space. Not to spoil anything, but it's possible a very large friend could be helping you out throughout the adventure, if the ending of the demo is anything to go by.

The Persistence by Firesprite, is the last of the big 3 unreleased PSVR games on this new demo disk. It's not only good that we got a demo for this game, it's good to find out that the game isn't in danger of being cancelled. The Persistence was originally supposed to launch back in June or July, but we didn't hear anything about the game for quite some time. Not only do we know the game is alive and well, but we get to sample the incredible environment that Firesprite has constructed for this production.

Fans of Dead Space will probably enjoy exploring this forsaken, deep space scientific vessel called, "The Persistence".

Both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift are well stocked with horror games and thrillers, but PSVR could use another high-impact game in this category. Firesprite seems well poised to deliver the goods with this procedurally generated Sci-Fi action adventure. Every time you die in The Persistence, a new character will be awoken and the layout of the ship will have altered. Each life you live (no matter how briefly) will play out differently, with various enemies to face, items to find and power-ups to collect. You can think of it as Dead Space VR meets a Rogue-like. At least, that's probably our best case scenario.

I enjoyed my time with The Persistence demo, but I really wish I could play the game using Move controllers and a control scheme similar to The Solus Project or Skyrim VR. It seemed awkward to look at my arms and have them remain motionless, while I feel like I should be moving my gun around the environment. Instead, you use your head to look at things and focus on things. There is an onscreen cursor that you use to aim your shots. It all works, but it's not quite as immersive as it could potentially be with Move controllers.

In addition to the three unreleased games, there is also a healthy selection of other interesting demos to check out. Dino Frontier, Tiny Trax, Raw Data, Fantastic Contraption and Eve: Valkyrie are all PlayStation VR games that haven't had their own private demos. So PSVR players that haven't had a chance to try these games yet, should have plenty to work through.
